CITY IMPROVEMENTS.

The appearance of the corner of Gloucester and Colombo Streets should be much improved by the replacing of the old portion of the Central Hotel with a threestory brick and stucco building, for which Mr E. Hiorns, the proprietor, has just let a contract to Mr W. H. Bowen. The part that is to be pulled down is a very old building, having done duty for at least thirty years. The new building, which will extend back tothe right-of-way, will contain about thirty rooms. On the ground floor there will be two large shops, the corner one of which will have a frontage to both Colombo and Gloucester Streets. The main entrance to the hotel will be between the two shops in Colombo Street, and there I will be a private entrance, with a handsome j porch, in Gloucester Street. The rest of the ground floor will include a private bar, kitchen, offices, &c., and underneath will be. a " dive," to be used as the public bar. On the first floor will be the dining-room, ladies' room and commercial room, and the bedrooms will be on the second floor. Mr J. C. Maddison is the architect for the work, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
