Connor, junr., secretary of the Dunedin Amateur Boating Club art Union, was to-day charged with establishing a certain lottery, by which prizes of goods, wares and merchandise were gained, drawn for and competed for by lottery. As the police did not press for a heavy penalty, the accused having pleaded guilty, a fine of .£1 and costs was imposed on the fint charge, and five others were withdrawn. The offence consisted in joining a bicyclo and other articles to works of art of nominal value. As it is understood that the club will realise over_£3oo after paying off its debts, the fino will not hurt it. In tlie Divorce Court to-day, in the suit Scott v. Scott and Low, in which a rule nisi had been granted, Mr Justice Williams refused to grant costs against the corespondent, stating that the Chief Justice and Mr Justice Edwards, with whom he had communicated, thought that as the corespondent had not known in the fir3t instance that the respondent was a married woman, he should not be called upon to pay costs.
