AWKWARD.
At an evening party recently, the hostess had bustled out of the room to arrange some detail of supper, or something. During her absence a young man Bang a sentimental ballad — to the intense agony of the company. The hostess returned just after he had finished. As he had to leave early he approached to make his farewell. "Good night!" said the hostess, with the usual excess of amiability. "Good night ! I'm so sorry you can't sing !" The young man crimsoned and fled.
