♦ [Per Press Association. I AUCKLAND, April 30. The Waihi-Silvertown return for the month shows a further improvement, ,£1646 having been obtained from 820 tons' of ore against .£1594 for March, .£156 for February and .£1034 for January. Messrs Bewick and Moreing paid to the Hit or Miss, and £1000 to tie Central and Joker Mining Companies at Puriri, Thames, to-day, as deposits for the purchase of the property, and also bound themselves to float a company by December next with a capital of .£150,000 and a working capital of .£30,000. The vendors received certain paid-up shares. JDUNEDEST, April 30. According to the Cromwell correspondent of the Star, some men who have a sluicing claim above the Roaring Meg Creek, found a bag containing lOOoz of gold, supposed to be one of two missing bags from the robbery of a police escort at Clyde in 1871.
