ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[Per Press Association.! LONDON, April 21. A. W. Harris, tbe well-knowi English professional cyclist, wh< recently visited Australia, has diet from injuries received while cycling ai the Aston grounds, Birmingham. WELLINGTON, April 22. Peter Smith, a half-caste living neai Picton, was drowned off the Waikana* bar. He was a member of the crew of the cutter Nui, from Picton, and was thrown into the water by a sudden lurch in tht heavy sea. Tho dingey being washed away, no attempt could be made to save him, The body was recovered near Otaki. A Native named Horomana Ta Parawaka, living near Eketahuna, was found dead in. bed, apparently having passed away in his sleep. Deceased was said to be ninety-nine years of age. MASTERTON, April 22. • Tho body of a man, reported to be Robert Finnoy, a labourer, aged about forty, was found in the Waipoua River, near Masterton. There is no indication as to how ho was drowned. INVERCARGILL, April 22. An inquest was held on the body of Robert Corlett, a seaman, supposed to be a native of London, aged fifty-3ix, whose body was found suspended by the arm to a stringer of tho Muff wharf this morning. Corlett shipped in tho Laira for London on April 1, and on April 9 tho captain reported that ho and another seaman had deserted. Tho latter was apprehended, but nothing was Boon of Corlett till the body waß found. He was lasL seen going down tho wharf, on the night of April 8, to the vessel. Ho had been drinking, but was supposed to be able to take care of himself. v The electric light on the wharf was not in use that night. A verdict of " Found drowned " was returned. Corlett had been working at the freezing works before lie shipped. It has been found necessary to remove one of tho eyes of Cuthbert Cowan, jun., who was injured by a g-unahot last week.
