BANDS OF HOPE.

The opening meeting for the. 1 winter season of the Waddington Band of Hope was held on Tuesday in the local schoolroom. There was a good attendance, and the Eev J. Maxwell presided. Eecitations were given by Lillie Clover, Lydia Clover, Mabel Hawkins and Maggie Gamble, and readings by Mr G. Sherson and the Eev J. Clover, Mutical selections were rendered at intervals by the choir, and a song was sung by Mr G. Sherson. At the close the officers and committee for the coming year were elected as follow : — President, Bey J. Maxwell; vice-presidents, Eev J. Clover and Messrs Gamble and J. Jebson, jun. ; secretary, Mr G. Hight; assistant secretary, Miss N. Armstrong ; treasurer, Mr J. W. Lord 5 organist, Miss Sherson ; committee, Messrs E. Austin, G. Sherson, H. Montgomery and Miss Gamble and the officers ea; ofiicio. — The Woodend and Waikuku Wesleyan Band of Hope opened the season's meetings on Tuesday evening by a tea and public meeting. Both were well attended. The President (the Eev J. Dellow) presided, and reviewed the work of the past year. The report showed one hundred members on the roll, with a good attendance at the meetings. The funds were in a healthy condition. A very good programme was then gone through as follows : — Songs by Mrs T. Ayers, Miss Catchpole and the Eev J. Dellow ; recitations by Mrs W. H. . Judson, Misses Porter, Catchpole, Judson and Vera Dellow and Mr W. H. Judson, and a reading by Mr Burnett. l :
