A fire started in Mr W. Hibbard's paddock, about three-quarters of a mile from Southbridge, about 11 o'clock yesterday morning. A large straw stack was destroyed, but the exertions of the Southbridge Fire Brigade and a number of willing hands prevented further damage being done.

Sydenham Sewage Question. — The Sanitary Committee of the Sydenham Borough Council met last night, but nothing has been divulged in reference to its proceedings. The committee will meet again to-night for the purpose of further considering tlio matter. Presentations. — Last Friday evening the Albion Football Club met for the purpose of presenting Messrs W. Mitchell and H. Butcher, two of their members, with a memento on the occasion of their respective marriages. Mr Watkins, an old member of the club, who was on a visit to Christchurch, made the presentations, and referred to the way Messrs Mitchell and Butcher had woi'ked for and assisted tho club. The former was presented with a silver teapot and . the latter with a silver butter-dish. Mr. Patterson, the*captain of the Club, who left for England a month ago, was, previous to his departure, presented with a handsome pair of fieldglasses bound in Morocco leather.
