The annual meeting of the Christchurch Eacing Club took place yesterday at NewBrighton. The weather was fine and the attendance good, while the course was in first-class condition. Messrs Hbbbs arid : Good win passed through the totalisator the sum of- <£2385j which is .£344 more than was invested at the corresponding meeting last year. The officials did their best to make the meeting a success, and although a few of the starts were, not all that could be desired, it was not always Mr Piper's fault. The racing was most interesting. Skirmisher won the big event vary easily, Rustic did Mr P. Butler a gop<V> turn by winning twice, whilst • Frenehy won the Welter Handicap mainly owing to Derrett's horsemanship. Several bookmakers were escorted from the course, and it is understood that the Club intends to take legal woceedings against them for trespass. This order was maintained until turning into the straight. Here Skirmisher, on the outside, pulled to the front, with Quiltiri and Marino next, Remorse beaten. Skirmisher eventually won comfortably by a length and a half from Marino, who came very fast in the last furlong, Quiltiri a neck away third, Remorse fourth and Grand Cross last. Time — lmin 45isec. Carolina got to the front after half the distance had been covered, finally winning easily from Ruby 11. Dorothy was third. Time — 2min 41sec. Dividend — .£5. THE HACK BACE HANDICAP, of 20 soys.
