Canterbury College. — The annual examination for degrees is now being conducted under the supervision of Mr S. D. Barker. .There are 104 candidates, 33 of whom are ladies. Sydenham Mayoralty. — , Councillor Hadfield, who has been a member of the Borough Council for several years, has consented to allow himself to be nominated for the position of Mayor. The Cheistchtikch Mayoralty. — A large and influential deputation waited upon Mr W. H. Cooper this morning ■and' requested him to allow himself to be nominated as a candidate for the city mayoralty. Mr Cooper asked for time t< > consider, and w^s to give an answer this afternoon. New Brighton.— A committee meeting of the New Brighton Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening. . It was decided to hold a 50yds Club Race on Show Day at 11 a.m., for a handsome clock. Entries to close with the secretary tomorrow. Ten new members were elected. The Criminal Sittings. — The calendar for the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court, which are to open next Monday, before His Honor Mr Justice Denniston, contains, up to the present, ten charges against seven persons. No fewer than seven of the cases are charges of burglary. There are twp cases against one person of forgery "arid one of theft. Kaiapoi Borough School. — The committee met last evening-;; present — Messrs Feldwick (in. the chair), Coup, Butcher, M'Kinney and Young. Leave of absence was granted to the chairman, Mr R. Moore. The Headmaster reported the roll number to be 553, and the average attendance 480-8, being 88 per cent of the roll. The requirements were gymnastics arid swings. Referred to the Visiting' Committee. Accounts amounting to £2 14s lOd were passed, and the question of repairs to the master's house was deferred till next meeting. The matter of prizes and arranging for an entertainment was left to a committee, consisting of the, chairman and Messrs M'Kinney and Coup. '!.*'■ Mayoral Elections. — In reply to a numerously-signed requisition, Mr N. K. Bowden ha 9 consented to become a candidate for the Sydenham Mayoralty. Nominations for the Kaiayroi Mayoralty close on Monday next at noon. Campers at Sumner. — It was stated at the meeting of the Sumner Borough Council last evening that steps would be taken to prosecute those campers who have not yet taken out permits from the Council for the erection of tents. Kaiapoi Mayoralty. — On Monday even-' ing a largely signed requisition was presented to Councillor Doubleday asking him to allow himself to be nominated for the position of Mayor for the borough. Councillor Doubleday promised favourably to consider the matter. East Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club. — At a meeting of the committee held on Saturday evening at the baths, twenty-six new members • were elected, making a total of seventy new members since the opening of the season. The drafting of a programme for the annual carnival concluded the evening's • business. The final heat of the 50yds Handicap was held on Thursday evening, resulting as follows : — H.
