INDEPENDENT LIBERALISM.
TO THE EDITOR,
Sir, — Was j r ouu footnote to Mr Prohibition Pallas epistle sarcasm? Sir Robert Stout has forfeited all claim to Liberalism, as he has climbed to power on the shoulders of the people, and sold his birthright for a mess of titular pottage, and now out Herods Herod in his Toryism. The Hon W. Rolleston has never gone crying to her Most Gracious for a title, and as far as genuine Liberalism is concerned he is head and shoulders above Sir Robert Republican Stout. Let the people of New Zealand be warned- against rearing a bloated snobocracy infinitely worse than the true Tory of England, who is at least consistent in his Toryism. The Hon John Ballance died as he lived— a true representative of the people. The Hon John M'Kenzie has done a great and noble- 1 work' in securing land for the people.aud it is to be hoped that he and the party who have supported him will be returned by large majorities. The land administration is the very quintessence of good government. I warn the young men and women of New Zealand to keep the land question in the forefront of politics, and remember that all wealth — mineral, animal and .vegetable: — comes from it, and once land sharks gain possession you will be worse than Siberian serfs. Get your little farm, or cottage and garden at once. Let the State be your landlord, and the evils of the Old Country will never trouble you. The general election will in a week or two be here. See to it your name is on the roll. Be careful how you vote. Beware of Independent Liberals, also Tory - cum - Liberals - cum-Radical-cuin-anythiug. You know what the Hon John M'Kenicie has done for you, also the Hon E. J. Seddon. Return them and their genuine supporters, and all will be well. Once the Tory Party get back to power the land administration will be the first thing they will destroy. Liberals vote straight, unite, vote solid and victory is ours.— l am, &c, EXCELSIOR.
