The Synod resumed at 7.30 p.m. Mr H. W. Bishop moved— " That the Bill to amend financial regulations (Clause 55) be read a second time and considered in committee." He pointed out that the services of an expert were now required to .deal with the difficulties and anomalies of the new tariff. The insurance account now stood in credit .£1843 14s Id. A permanent tariff was much required, and the Bill, under consideration provided for this, on the basis of the old insurance rates.

Mr J. M. Heywood said that no insurance office could go away from the Association rates.

Several members took part in the discussion, and the question being put, a division resulted as follows : — Ayes : Clergy 2S, laityll. Noes : Clergy 12, laity 20.

Motion lost.

The debate on the motion referring to the Church Neics was resumed, but was intcitupted by the 10 p.m. adjournment.
