CHRISTCHURCH FOOTBALL CLUB'S SPORTS.

The Christchurch Football Club's annual sports were held on Saturday last on .the New Brighton Racecourse, which .was kindly lent by Mr 1 H. Mace. There wag a good attendance of members and their friends. All tho events were well.contested, the finish of the mile race being particularly -close". ,\slr J. H. Heliipton acted as starter, and gave every satisfaction. The following are the results : — Long Jump Handicap. — H. H.Piercy (lin) 18ft s|in, 1 ; W. Beadel (Bin) 18ft 4in, 2 ; F: Harley (scr) 18ft Hin, 3. Nine others competed. 120 yds Flat Handicap— J. S. Middlcton 10yds, 1 ; C.R. Williams 4yds, 2 5 D. Hoare 10yds, 3. Twenty-four others started. Time — 12£ see. Hop, Step and Jump Handicap — G. Marshall (2ft 2m) 40ft 4sin, 1 ; D. Iloare (6ft) 39ft, 2 ; J. S. Middleton (4ft Sin) 38ft 9£in, 3. Eight others competed' 250 yds Flat Handicap — D. Hoare 18yds, 1 ; H. Garsia 10yds, 2 ; S. G. Norton 20yds, 3. There -were seventeen other starters. Time— 2B* r sec. Pick-a-Back Race, 100yds— Cook and Pascoe 1, Nicoll and Styche 2. Eight other couples started. One-mile Flat Handicap —J. Matson 180 yds, 1; S. Macdonald 80yds, 2; H. Garsia scr, 3. This' was a fine finish, Matson winning on the tape, with Garsia close up third. Time — imin'Soisec. Three-legged Race, 75yds— 0. F. Smith and T. Cowlishaw won this event for the third year In succession. Nine other couples ran. Strangers' Race, 120 yds Handicap — J. Ford 9yds, 1. Consolation Handicap, 120yds— F. Harley scr, 1 ; A. F, Clark 4yds, 2. * In the evening a dinner was held at Free's Hotel, when the prizes were presented to the winners. The captain of the Club, Mr H. J. M. Thomson, occupied tho chair, and with songs and recitations a very pleasant evening was spent.
