GYMNASTIC DISPLAY.

The members of the Christchurch Amateur Gymnastic Club gave another very successful gymnastic display at their gymnasium last evening. A squad of the College Rifles gave exhibitions of physical drill and bayonet exercise, and several members of the Mounted Kifjes earned loud applause for their sword exercise. The maze running, club swinging, spring-board jumping and tumbling by various members of the club were per- ; formed in a highly creditable manner. 1 Messrs John Butler and W. E. Keating ( and Messrs Watson Brothers took part in. ] vigorous, if not very scientific boxing con- J tests. In collar-and-elbow •wrestling Mr ] James Butler gained two falls out of three in a contest with Mr G-. Biltcliffe. The feats of strength by Messrs S. Matthew and J. Butler were exceptionally good, the ( former supporting three dumbbells, of a total weight of 2401 b, on his chest, syid in cafcch-as- catch-can wrestling they each 1 gained one fall after a prolonged struggle. 1 Feats on the horizontal bar and Eoman 3 rings were cleverly performed by Messrs J. * L. Carl, B. Bickerton, H. Kercy -and i Munday Brothers, and Miss Rogers's clnb < swinging was very gracefully done.
