• [Per Press Association.! WASHINGTON, Oct. 2. During a political meetiug in BurliDgton, State of lowa, a platform fell and Mr A. E. Stevenson, Vice-presi-dent of the United States, was injured. An elderly man, a labourer, named Dennis Wren, who has lived at Timaru foi many years, was speaking to Mr Tracey, gardener at the convent, on Saturday morning, in the convent grounds, when he suddenly fell and expired. He had beer under medical attention for some time foi heart disease, and a certificate being given no inquest was considered necessary. Hf leaves a widow and several young chil dren.
