TPer Press Association.! HASTINGS, Oct. 5. The weather is cold and showery for the first day's racing of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Spring Meeting. At about ten o'clock there was an unusually heavy fall of hail, making the course soft going, and rather affecting the attendance. It is niore.like a winter meeting than a spring gathering. His Excellency the Governor and suite were present. OCTOBER HANDICAP, of 100 sovb ; one mile and a distance-Lotion (M'Taggart) 1, Tlie Shrew 2, JVloonralter 3. All started but Armilla. rhe race was run in si shower of rain. Won by a longhead. Time—2min Ssec. Dividend—£2s lis. FIRST HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, of 75 boys.; one mile and three-quarters—Prince Charlie 9st 71b (P. P. White), 1; Tenby .lOat 21b, 2; Tallyho lOst 91b, 3. All Btarted. Billy fell when leading. Time—3mm 43sec, Dividend—£o 17s. GUINEAS—DBy Star 1, Uniform 2, Dauntless 3.
