PRESENTATION TO MR WALKDEN.
On the occasion of Mr Walkden leaving the employment of the City Council, his follovrofficials presented him with a handsome liqueur case, and the foreman, of works (Mr Russell) also gave Mr Walkden an ebony walking stick, handsomely mounted and engraved. - Yesterday evening, after 5 o'clock, the workmen employed by the Corporation met in the Council's yard, and presented their late chief with a most complete smoker's companion, containing two superb silver-mounted pipes, silyer matchbox, cigar-holder and cutter ; also with a first-class travelling rug manufactured by the Kaiapoi Woollen Company. Mr Davies, who made the presentation, s^id that he and his fellow workmen were there to ask Mr Walkden's acceptance of a small present. They were all sorry he was leaving them, as he had always treated ; them courteously, and had settled any little dispntes in a fair, courteous and.xgentlemanlyr.jnanner. Mr Walkden in reply, said' he took it that the present occasion showed that he. had not altogether tailed in his endeavours. He wotild always look back with pleasure on this sign of their appreciation of his efforts to serve the city of Christchurch and his fellow men.
