THE GENERAL ELECTION.

Electors all over the colony are being urged to see that their names are on the respective rolls. The names of Mr Joseph Myers and Mr Harold Beauchamp are mentioned in connection with Wellington City seat. Mr Gilbert Carson (Oppositionist) announces that he will be a candidate for Wanganui at the general election. It is reported on reliable authority that, in response to a requisition, Mr Thomas Begg will shortly announce himself as a candidate for the Caversham seat. Mr E. C. Bruce has definitely decided to stand for the Manawatuelectorate, and says, "I shall do so as a pronounced opponent of the present Government." The National Conservative Association is in a fix in the Masterton electorate..- It would have none of. Mr R. P. Greville,it does not . care to- accept; Mr Cameron, and now awaits . the coming of Mr W. H. Beethain's consent. Meantime Mr Greville will stand against all comers. This improves the Liberal candidate's chances. Mr John Hutcheson, a labour candidate, addressing the Wellington electors, said — "Though I am a member of a Good Templar Lodge, I cannot see eye to eye with the Prohibitionists. The principle of catching a man by the scruff of the neck, even to save his immortal soul, is repugnant to my feelings." The M. L. Tory party's vote of censure on the Seddon Government was (says the Bulletin) defeated by a stupendous majority. Even the people who objected to Seddon borrowing one million couldn't very well throw him out when the alternative was putting in Russell, who, not long since, advocated borrowing twenty millions. And the spectacle of the twentymillion borrowing man moving a vote of censure on the other man for borrowing one million was a lovely hunk of humour.
