THE MEMBER FOR PAREORA.

The Temuka Leader says:— -No member has ever represented this district who did one-tenth as much for it as Mr Flatman. He has done more for the district than all his predecessors put' together. For the Arowhenua settlers he hap) secured Mr Quinn's farm, and abor^he extraordinary concession of not , compelling those -who took it up to live thereoni That is a special concession which has been granted : to few if any other settlers in New Zealand. He has also succeeded in getting the Government to buy the Arowhenua and Albury Stations, which contain close on 25,000 acres, and on. which a large number of people will before long be settled. , Last winter he obtained from the Geraldine Eoad Board a considerable sum of money, got it supplemented by a Government subsidy, and thus secured work for the unemployed. He has, therefore, got for his district more, we believe, than any other member of the House, but he is "evidently determined to have more if ho can. No sooner was the Geraldine district included in the electorate which, no doubt, he will represent in a, few months, than he proceeded to work for that end of the constituency. He saw the Geraldine district had been neglected, that nothing had been done for it, and he at once decided on securing, if possible, a share of the public works expenditure, by asking for a railway to Geraldine. There is nothing unreasonable in the request, and we are glad to find the Ministerial reply was favourable. Mr Flatman was promised that as soon as an engineer could be spared a survey of the line would be made. * * * Meanwhile, we congratulate Mr Flatman on the intelligent energy with which he is looking after the interests of the district, and have no hesitation in saying that he deserves well at the hands of the people at large. ■ .
