Charles GODFREY SEASON.
♦ ■ In connection with Mr Charles Godfrey's first appearance at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday evening, the management promise to provide an entertainment modelled strictly upon the latest London lines — clean, wholesome, reputable, nothing to offend, everything to commend— similar to those which Mr Godfrey has so successfully popularised in the old world, and quite recently in Melbourne, Sydney and Dunedin. The opening portion of the performance will be chiefly contributed' by Mr Godfrey, supported by the leading members of his combination (Avho, withj the exception of the talented Bovis brothers, are entirely new to Chrißtclmrch audiences), whilst it will close with a representation of Charles Godfrey's masterpiece in the military scena"On Guard." The first act represents Mr Godfrey on guard at Sebastopol ; and in the second he is found wandering about the village churchyard, deserted^ in poverty, and armless, when in descriptive eong he dramatically asks, " I've done thin for my country, but what has my country done for me ? " The scene, it is said, is touchingly pathetic, and never failß to arouse the greatest enthusiasm. The box plan will be opened this morning at Messes Milner and Thompson's, when seats may be secured for any evening during the brief season. • : -
