LAND BOARD.

♦ — ■ - •• A meeting of the Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday; presentMessrs J. VV. A. Marchant (Commissioner of Crown Lands), D. M'Millan and A. C. Pringle. The following, applications were granted : — Archy M'Cormick, section 36600, block XIV., Spaxton Survey District, 84a 2r 30p ; Alfred Austin, section 36159, block IV., Orari district, 14a 2r 9p ; the first subject to the. purchaser undertaking not to acquire road access to the land. The Commissioner was authorised to deal with an application from Mr W. K. Parbury for a lease of land at Cheviot for the accommodation of travellers' stock. It was decided to call for tenders for the temporary pastoral occupation of landing reserve 2951, Hart's Creek, Lake Elleslnere,' subject to the usual conditions, and to the protection of the rights of anglers and others. Mi* B. Martin applied for permission to give up his lease of part of the Hu*runui River-bed, in front of Messrs Dillon and Puschel's sections. It was resolved to approve of the area formerly held by Mr Martin being divided between Messrs Martin, Dillon and Puschel, each lessee taking the part in front of his holding. An application from Mr W. Morgan, for permission to cut firewood in the Forest Reserve, at Pudding Hill, was refused, the Board being of opinion that the bush should be preserved. Messrs Bailey, Price, Magon and Birdling made claims for payment of expenses in connection with the enquiry into the charges of alleged duinmyism against Birdling Brothers. It was resolved that, under the circumstances, the Board did not consider that Messrs Bailey and Birdling were entitled to payment of expenses, and to approve of Messrs Price and Magon being allowed fair expenses. Proposals for the expenditure of thirds and fourths, submitted by the Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board, Mount Peel Road Board, Waimate County Council, and Rangitata Road Bbayd were approved. The Coldstream Eoad' Board applied t6 be allowed to' expend thirds from sections in the Hinds settlement on the Main South Road. The Board decided that.the proposal did not appear fair, if it was to divert thirds from the Hinds to.the Main Road to Ashburton. It was resolved to hold inquiries into alleged charges of dummyism — at Rakaia, on Sept. 23, as 'to. Lot 47i 'Highbaflk Estate, and atOxford^on the following day as to Lots 1, 2 and-15, Reserve 2332, View Hill.
