Sale pp Fruit. — To-morrow morning Messrs Avers, Beauchamp and Co. will hold' an auction sale- of fruit at thoir rooms. Spring Blooms. — A special display of narcissi and other .spring blooms will be made by Mr J. G. Davis, florist, at Mb shop in Colombo Street, during Friday (tomorrow) and Saturday. Having an exceedingly large collection to select from, Mr Davis will be able to produce a very fine effect, and his shop will no doubt attract a great number of visitors. The Municipal Elections. — The election of members of the City Council for the North-east and Richmond Wards, of four members of the Sydenham Borough Council, and three members each of the St Albans and Linwood Borough Councils, took place to-day. There was no excitement, and but little apparent interest was manifested in the proceedings, though the polling was fairly steady, Supreme Court. — His Honor Mr Justice Denniston will, hold a sitting in Chambers at 11 ajn. to-morrow. On Saturday or Monday hia Honor will leave for the south, to take the sittings of the Supreme Court at Oaxnaru, which will open next Tuesday. He will afterwards take the sittings at Dunedin and Invercargill in the absence of Mr Justice Williams, who is presiding at the sittings of the Court of Arbitration atWestport. Tramway Traffic— Cathedral Square presented a very animated appearance at ten o'clock this morning, owing to the departure of long trains of tramcars, loaded with passengers, a large proportion of them children, who were taking advantage of the fine weather and the school holidays to have an outing at Sumner or New Brighton. No fewer than twenty-two cars went to Sumner, while on the New Brighton Company's line eight cars departed for the seaside. Representation Commies on. — A sitting of the Representation Commission for the South Island will be held in Christchurch on Monday next, for the purpose of hearing objections to the alterations in the boundaries of the electoral districts. Three objections have been lodged, one by Mr Buick to the change in .the boundaries of the Wairau district ; another made with the object of having Eyreton included in the Kalapoi electorate ; and another made by the Linwood Borough Council against the addition of a portion of Linwood to Chrifltchurch City. Dbuidism. — On Tuesday night the members of the Queen of the Oak Lodge gave a pleasant evening's entertainment to their friends, about one hundred and twenty of whom were present. The programme consisted of songs, readings, recitations and dialogues, interspersed with dancing, and refreshments were dispensed daring the evening. Sister dimming, Chief Druidesß, in thanking the visitors for their attendance, spoke of the success that had attended the opening of this Ledge. A hearty vote of thanks having been tendered by the visitors to the Queen of the Oak Lodge, the meeting closed with •* God Save the Queen." . . Women's Meetino at St Albanb.— A political meeting of women was held in the Merivale Schoolroom last night, when there was an attendance of about fifty. Mrs M'Kee gave a short address on " The Responsibility of Women as Voters," after which. Mr T. E. Taylor expressed his views in favour of various measures of political reform. Organ Recital. — Last night an organ recital was given in the Durham Street Wesleyan Church by Mr R. Trist Searell. The programme consisted entirely of selections from the compositions of Mendelssohn, and the numbers, which were so chosen as to admirably illustrate the work of the great composer, were played by Mr Searell with his usual taste and Bkill. Choruses and other vocal numbers from Mendelssohn's compositions were well rendered by the choir. Canterbury Caledonian Society. — The weekly social meeting of the Canterbury Caledonian Society, held in the Society's rooms last night, was an exceedingly pleasant gathering. Dr Thomas, one of the vice-presidents, occupied the chair, and a very enjoyable programme was given under the direction of Mr J. J. Dougall. Songs were sung by Mr Dougall, Misses Watson, M'Neish and Campbell, Messrs M'Lean, Fairbairn and Dougall. MissHurcombe and Mr Smith played a mandoline duet, Mr D. Ryan- gave a recitation, and pipe music was played by Pipe-Major MTavish, and Pipers Sturrock and Wade. A hornpipe was danced by Master Wade, and a short programme of dancing concluded the entertainment. The series of social meetings for the present season will close on Sept. 23, when Mr J. T. M'Leod Smith, will provide the programme. The well-known business of Messrs Hopkins and Co., of High Street, has been purchased by Messrs Robinson and Sons, Bee Hive Boot Depdt. The purchasers have decided to have an immense clearance for a short while, and the whole stock has been remarked to very low prices. An advertisement to this effect appears elsewhere. 1895 Li Hung Chang visited Prince Bismarck, the two venerable statesmen shaking hands most warmly. At his request a photograph was taken of Li Hung Chang's head, by means of the X rays, which revealed the presence of the bullet fired at him some time ago by a would-be assassin. The North-Eastern Railway Company are now issuing books of coupons for 1000 miles of travel, which will enable the purchaser to travel first-class for twelve months in any direction over their line, until the coupons are exhausted. The cost will be about l|d per mile, and the coupons will be available for use by any of the members of the purchaser's faniily.

The Agricultural and Pastoral Association. — Mr A. A. M'Kellar, secretary of the Canterbury Saleyards Company, has been appointed treasurer of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Mounted Rifles. — The committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association has granted the use of the Show Grounds at Addington to the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, from Oct. 11 to Oct. 17, for the purpose of a week's training.
