Aorangi, j£ . -which, was recently purchased from the New a," Zealand Shipping Company by Mr James Huddart for the Vancouver mail line, is g£ . expected to be ready in six months. The \' contract for alterations and improvements has been given ont, and provides for the replacing of the present compound engines Ti with triple-expansion engines, capable of I . driving the vessel at a speed of 16 knots. k , The whole of the cabin accommodation is ' ' to ibe refitted in modern style,, and the I latest improvements for the safety and ,-' ' comfort of passengers are to be provided. Gable advices state that these alterations and improvements are to cost no le3s a sum than ,£40,000. The Aorangi will be the largest steamship crossing the Pacific from Australasia to America, and she has been specially acquired to perform the proposed w mail service from New Zealand to Canada in conjuntion with other steamers of the Canadian line.
