AUCKLAND, August 27,
The Corporation intends applying for a new trial in the caso of Sheehan v. the City Council, in which plaintiff obtained damages for the loss of his son, who was drowned at the city baths.
A deputation waited upon the Board of Education from the Committee of the Auckland Technical School, requesting the Board to take it over, as it was not selfsupporting. Consideration of the question was deferred till Mr Theo. Cooper's return from Wellington.
After discussing the Bill drafted by the Premier for the suppression of juvenile immorality, the Auckland Women's Democratic Union decided to forward the following resolution to Mr Seddon: — "While thanking Mr Seddon for his effort to legislate against the increase of juvenile depravity, Aye wish to protest against the police taking power to arrest any girl, and would suggest women should be appointed for that purpose, with power to call on the police if necessary."
In the Supreme Court to-day, in the case of an appeal by the executors of the late lion Patrick Diguan (deceased) against the decision of the Commissioner of Stamps in assigning stamp duty on a portion of the estate, his Honor delivered judgment. In giving judgment, his Honor said that the main question was whether a call made by the Bank of New Zealand on Nov. 26, 1894, was due by deceased at the time of his death on Oct. 23, 1894, and the second question was whether certain debts, amounting to d£l7, should not be deducted, and involving a duty of 17s. His Honor decided in the negative as to both questions, and dismissed the appeal with ,£lO 10s costs. The amount of the call on which the executors claimed a refund of stamp duty was about dfilOCO.
