FOOTBALL.
•CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. The Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met at the Clarendon Hotel yesterday evening; present— Messrs W. J. Cotterill (in the chair), A. E. G. Rhodes, G. H. Mason, F. T. Evans, H. Frost, -P..E. Asquith, W. G. Garrard, J. Daniels and F. Buntin. The Secretary reported that arrangements'had been made to start the Thursday Flag competition to-morrow. The Wellington Union wrote asking when the Canterbury Union proposed to send its representative team to Wellington "this year. The Secretary was instructed to arrange for a date for the match. In reply to a letter from the Manawatu Union, it wa.s decided to inform that Union that the Canterbury Union would send a team to play Manawatu this year on condition that the Manawatu Union guaranteed to send a team to Canterbury next year. It was decided to allow W. Spring, late of the East Christshurch Club, to play for Merivale. The grounds and referees for Saturday's senior matches -were arranged as follow :— Linwood v. Kaiapoi (Mr Evans) and Sydenham v. Canterbury College (Mr W. G. Garrard), at Lancaster Park ; East Christchurch v. Merivale < (Mr J. Nixon) and Christcburch v. Albion (Mr Soper), at Sydenham Park. The Treasurer reported that several clubs had not paid their annual subscriptions to the Union, and some had not paid their entrance fees for the competitions. It was decided that all subscriptions due to the Union must be paid at once. It was reported that the North Canterbury Club had allowed most of its matches set down for decision in Christchurch to go 15y default, but had kept its engagements with teams, which" journeyed to Rangiora. It was decided to ask the Club to fulfil all. its engagements in f uture, and failing this to withdraw from, the competitions. The following is the draw for the Thursday Flag competition : — May , 21, " East j Christchurch v. Sydenham, Merivale v. ' Linwood. June 4, East Christchurch v. Merivale, Sydenham v. Linwood ; June 11, East Christchurch v. Linwood, Merivale v. Sydenham. The second round will be played in the same order, and the matches will be played at Lancaster Park. On Tuesday afternoon a match, played at the Richmond Domain, between the Richmond and Burwood schools resulted in a win for the former by thirty-five points to nil.
