PUBLIC ADDRESS.
At the close of the banquet an address was given by the, Minister at the East Oxford Town Hall, to an audience of about 300 electors. Mr R. H. Parish occupied the chair. Mr M'Kenzie spoke for about ' on hour and a half, dealing principally with land legislation. ' He received an ex- : cellent hearing, and applause was frequent I and hearty. Mr J. O'Halloran proposed a vote of | thanks to the Minister, and confidence in the Government. This was seconded "by Mr Powell. , Mr J. Miles Verrall moved, as an amendment, a vote of no-confidence in the Government, for the one reason that when it had the power to create a State bank of the Bank of New Zealand it failed to do so. This was seconded by Mr Bunn, but on being put to the meeting only three hands were held up, and the original motion was carried by a large majority with loud applause. Mr M'Kenzie thanked the meeting for their expression of confidence, and terminated the meeting with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. ' ' "
