The Star. FRIDAY. MAY 15, 1896 . A JEWISH WEDDING.

ME GEAHAM LEWIS— MISS MAEIE HIESCH. THE SONG OP SOLOMON. [From Our Correspondent.] LONDON, March 27. Tho really smart Jews are' very clannish and select in everything concerning their family life and their religion. The consequence is that Gentiles seldom get a look in at their ■weddings, their funerals and their christenings. The famous solicitor, Sir George Lewis, has, however, nothing bigoted about him, and to his son Graham's marriage to Miss Marie Hirsch last Thursday, friends of all sorts and religions were bidden. The affair took place at the Kensington Synagogue, a huge building ■which was crowded to excess. Society, literature, the drama and the sister arts were represented by leading members of each, and a notable quiet reigned in comparison with tho disregard-, fiil social buzz that is apt to rise at St Paul's, Knightsbridgo or St George's, Hanover Square. Gentlemen sternly repressing, an inclination' to remove their hats, stood side "by side with the first of pretty spring gowns ; notably, the four charming bridesmaids — a dainty quartette of brunette beauty — appeared in the tight sleeves of soft chine silk, creamy satin skirts, and hats black and pink, tied under, tho chin by a black ribbon that gave every advantage to their bare throats. The hand of Mdme. Young seemed to-be apparent in these very original yet simple frocks, and Certainly one saw it in the brown and carnation-coloured flowered satin worn by Lady Lewis. When ■ THE SONG OF SOLOMON burst from the lips of .the Eabbi at the beginning of a bridal address, the audience was startled to hear this triumphant piece of literature in its right place at last. The breaking of the glass from which the bride drank, under the bridegroom's fpot, greatly interested them, and agreeably piqued by the novelty.and charm of the ceremony, they, filed away to a crowded re-ception-at 88, Portland Place, feelin"- that the season had been inaugurated by one of the loveliest brides London is likely to see this year, and one of the prettiest weddings. ■ The guests included the Lord Chief Justice of England and Mr Speaker with their wives, Sir W. and Lady Harcourt, Lord and Lady Rothschild Mr and Mrs Asquithj Mr and Mrs T Hardy, Mr and Mrs J; M. Barrie, Professor Kay Lankester, Mr and Mrs Alma Tadenia,&c. .
