THE RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.

SECOND DAY. [Per Press Association.! OAMARU, March 14. The weather this morning was fine, but dull, with a light wind down the range. The Marlborough match, ten shots at 500 yards, is proceeding with Kynoch ammunition. The shooting was delayed for an hour this morning, and the match will | finish about lunch time. The Ladies' j Match, not counting for the belt, follows ; and then probably the Auckland match, ten shots at 300 yards will be fired, and one range of the Oamaru match. The local committee have abandoned tho proposed picnic to-morrow. A '"social" will be held on Thursday night. The Marlborough Match was fired in almost perfect weather, the light being good, but there was a draught across the range just sufficient to puzzle the men in obtaining the elevation. The shooting generally was a great improvement on that of yesterday, and there is little I doubt that the Kynoch ammunition used in the match was of better quality than that of yesterday. In some instances some men experienced hard luck, getting on several bull's-eyes, and then falling across a bad cartridge which 'failed to reach the distance. The following is the prize list : — Marlborough-Kynoch Match. Ten shots. Sergt.-Major Whyte, Oamaru, .£B ... 49 Corpl. Meddings, Christchurch, £6 ... 48 Corpl. Counted out M'Donald, Clachen, . Hicks, P. H. Ballinger, Oates, Armstrong, Grant, Craw, Smith, M'Gregor, Head, Fraser, Pratt and Captain Chalmers. At the conclusion of the Marlborough Match a test was made of three different ammunitions, viz., Victorian manufactured, that manufactured at Axickland in 1895, and that used yesterday. The range was 500 yds, four men firing five shots each. The result was Victorian 85, 1895 manufacture 66, yesterday's ammunition 60. Yesterday's ammunition will be used in the Ladies' Match as there is not likely to be any difficulty at the short range. -Latest. The Ladies' Match was won by Trevethick, Petone, 47 ; Todd, Victoria, 46, 2 ; White, Victoria, 46, 3.
