RICCARTON.

An ordinary meeting of this Board was held yesterday, at the office, Fendalton ; present— All the members and' Mr H. J. Hall, chairman. Mr Philpott waited on the Board and asked to have the rates on the Papanui Domain remitted. It was resolved to comply with the request. The following correspondence was read : — From Mr M. S. Campbell, in reference to a resolution, passed at a public meeting at Papanui, dealing with drainage matters. It was resolve to defer consideration of this matter pending receipt of a communication from the Chairman of the public meeting. From the Town Clerk, St Albans, complaining of an alleged nuisance from pigstyes adjoining the borough boundary. Referred to the inspector to examine and take prompt action. From a ratepayer complaining of a nuisance on premises adjoining Bligh's Road. It was resolved to reply that the premises referred to were in the Avon Road District. From Messrs Pearse and three others asking the Board to clear out a portion of the ditch on the Hare•wood Road, as their properties were being flooded. It was resolved to comply with the request conditionally. From the Avon Road Board, enclosing an accotint for work done in connection with drainage matters at Belfast. It was resolved to reply that the Riccarton Road Board could not entertain the claim. The" sub-committee appointed to examine the drainage on the North Road, near Delahunt's, reported that the drainage was wholly caused by ratepayers in the Avon Road District, and as the natural fall for the drainage was through the Avon district, the Board could do no more at present than maintain the road waterchannel as hitherto. The Surveyor furnished an estimate of the quantity and cost of metal required for the maintenance of the main roads, and a list of by-roads . most necessary to be gravelled before, winter, and it was resolved te invite tenders, returnable at next meeting (March 9), for the several quantities agreed upon. The monthly report on works in progress, &c, was read and adopted, and it was resolved to reinstate the bridge over the Styx cutting on Gardiner's Junction Road, and to make a ford for light traffic adjoining. The collector's report, with list of defaulting ratepayers, was read, and it was re- ■ solved to take immediate legal proceedings for recovery of all unpaid rates. Accounts having been passed for payment the Board rose. _______^___
