AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

A meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held on Saturday evening; present — Messrs F. Wilding (president) in the chair, C. Hood-Williams (Ashburton), P. Selig and C. R. Smith (Hawke's Bay), James Moir (Kurow), C. J. Matheson and N. L. Macbeth

(Dunedin), F. J. Cowlishaw (Waipa), H. Frost (Te Awamutu), T. D. Condell (South Canterbury), Dr Jennings (Auckland), C. Garrard (West Coast), H. S. Batchelor (Manawatu), E. R. Webb (honorary treasurer), L. A. Cuff (honorary secretary), W. J. Cotterill and L. "W. Harley (Wellington), ' J. B. Laurenson (Nelson}, and J. F. Grierson (South Canterbury^. . Mr F. Caldwell's resignation as vicepresident was accepted, and Mr J. Cotter was appointed in his place. The Secretary stated that both the Victorian and New South Wales representatives would probably arrive on Friday next, and arrangements for their reception were left in the hands of Messrs Wilding and Cuff.

The New South Wales Association wrote thanking the Canterbury Association for arranging for reduced passage tickets for the team. Their team consisted of : — Sprints— W. Cartwright; middle distances—E. G. Corner ; long distances— H. W. C. Biggs ; walks— H. Goodwin ; Long Jump, 440 yds Flat and 440 yds Hurdles— R. Masterton j jumps— J. E. Gormley. The following were also to accompany the team : — ; R. J. White, S. Hughes and J. Wiseman (Sydney Harriers) ; F. Cartwright and L. D. Phillips (Darlinghurst Harriers) ; and E. Si Mark (secretary). Goodwin and the two Cartwrights were to arrive by the Wakatipu,, and the remainder by the Mararoa. ■

Messrs Cuff (Canterbury), Low (Dunedin), M'Cormick (Auckland) and M'Cardle (Wellington) were appointed a committee to select the New Zealand team to compete at the Australasian championships. It was decided to pay the travelling expenses of any competitors not present at the New Zealand meeting who should be picked to represent the colony at the Australasian meeting. ■ Messrs Cuff and Webb were appointed to arrange the order of the events for the Australasian Championship Meeting, and to* consult with the representatives of the other colonies on the matter.

A sub-committee was appointed, to arrange for the- reception of the visiting members of the New Zealand 1 team...

It was decided that the prices of admission for both meetings should be one shilling to the grounds and sixpence extra to the grand stand, the decision in the case 6f the Australasian Meeting being subject to the approval of the Cyclists' Alliance.

H. Jones, standard timekeeper ; Mr Cowlishaw, standard judge ; Messrs Condell and T. Kerr, judges of walking ; Mr E. R. Webb, starter ; Mr Frost, clerk of the course ; Messrs Tringham and Peter Wood, marksmen; Mr Laurenson, Press steward; Messrs Laxirie, Cusack and Macbeth, result board ; Mr J. Cusack, lapkeeper. The following Sports Committee was elected: — Messrs M'Cardle, Wilding, M'Cormack, Webb, Knapp, Condell, Cuff and Dr Jennings. The meeting then closed.
