Alfred Williams, who was drowned near Havelock, has been recovered; At the inquest a verdict of "found drowned" was returned. AbudBcription for the widow realised over £60. A young man named J. Laurie., was drowned in the river near Hastings yesterday morning whilst bathing. The deceased was unable to swim,' The body has not been recovered. HAWEEA, Dec. 2. Henry M'Lean, twenty-four, whose spine was injured in a football match on the Queers Birthday, and who has been confined to his bed ever since, died to-day. ,At Eangiora on Saturday Mr and Mrß E. Kinley were driving down High Street, and when opposite Earnley the horse J swerved from the roadway and ran the gig on to the footpath. The wheel mounted the bank beside the path, end the vehicle, was overturned, the occupants falling underneath it. The horse also fell, but fortunately- remained quiet until released from the gig. Mr and Mrs Kinley escaped with bruises and a severe shaking.
Theosophical Society. — The regular Sunday, afternoon public meeting in connection with thiß society was hold jester*. , day at the lodge-room. The Vice-president ; read a very interesting paper on " Karma*" i and the usual discussion followed.
