THE MEIKLE CASE.
A. Press Association telegram from Invercargill says:— "J. J. Meikle, who* imprisonment for sheep-stealing and rob* sequent conviction of a material witneai for perjury at his trial, were the matter of inquiry hy the Petitions Committee ol the Honse of Representatives, which re commended that Meikle should be com-; pensated for his imprisonment, started lecturing on hiß prison experience* last night, but the audience was.sc small that the money was returned To-night, admission being free, he had aft audience of about two hundred; and h< , delivered an extraordinary diatribe agajnsf .' the Justice Department, Judge Ward (who sentenced him), the Crown Prosecutor, and the Demooratio Government, which, « is understood, is not inclined to compensate him for incarceration, although willing tc pay the actual costs of his private prose* ontion of the perjurer Lambert.
