WOMEN'B TEMPERANCE CONVENTION. MELBOURNE, Nov. 30. The Women's Christian Temperance Convention has adopted resolutions of a wide-spread character dealing with the drink traffic, the sale of tobacco and the injurious effects of sex novels. The convention urges popularising the use of puro water in preference to so-called temperance beverageß. It made strenuous protest against the proposal to enforce the Contagious Diseases Act, and decided to forward a protest on the subject to the Medical Congress, which meets in New Zealand next year. LIGHTHOUSE FOR THE SNARES. The Chamber of Commerce desires the Government to ascertain what action New Zealand has taken since 1892 relative tothe selection of a Bite for a lighthouse on the Snares. CABLE COMMISSION. ADELAIDE, Nov. 30. The Premier has telegraphed to Sir E. Braddon, suggesting that Western and South Australia Bhould have separate representatives on the Cable Commission. TERRIFIC THUNDERSTORM. The long spell of dry weather wbb ended yesterday' by a terrific thunderstorm over the greater part of the colony, one to three inches of rain falling.
