A PERILOUS VOYAGE.
' A DISABLED FRENCH BARQUE. GALLANT RESCUE. [Special to Pkbss Association.! SYDNEY, Nov. 28. The ship Arietides has arrived from London bringing the captain and thirteen of the crew and two pasßengera of the j French barque Terre Neuvre. The Ariß- ' tides encountered a severe gale in the latitude of the Island of St Paul, and shortly afterwards sighted a barque flying signals of distress and that was in a sinking condition. A boat was lowered to render assistance, but in face of the mountainous sea running, the work of rescue j was attended by the utmost difficulty, yet the crew of the Aristides managed to j get all off the derelict with safety. The • Terre Neuvre had been out 100 days from ' Hamburg to Adelaide, and had terrible ' weather throughout. She had been beating about for several days, dißmaßted : and disabled. The vessel was continuously swept by waves, and. all the boats had been i smashed. There were ten feet of water in ; the hold, consequently the crew were i unable to get below to obtain the food and were almost starved. The crew lost everything. The vesael had a general ' cargo.
