The Industrial Exhibition.

MEETING OP THE INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Industrial Association was held at the office of the Association laßt night 5 present— Meßsrß H. B. Kirk (President), J. E. Triggs, J. Waller, B. Buchanan, E. Allan, J. Clegg, G. T. Booth and J. Maddren. The President, on behalf of the General Committee of the Industrial Exhibition, presented the report and balance-sheet of the exhibition. Mr R. Allan, as Chairman of the Finance Committee of the exhibition, handed over the bank books, showing a credit balance of £2083 10s sd. On the motion, of Mr E. Buchanan, seconded by Mr J. Waller, the report and balance-Bhest wer9 adopted, and a vote of thanks was accorded to the Exhibition j Committee for their services. . Mr E. Allan moved a special vote of thanks to the ladieß who had assisted at the exhibition. He said that, as the ladies had been members of the General Committee, that body had not passed a vote of thanks to them, but he thought that the Industrial Association might very well do so. The President seconded the motion, and suggested that letters of thanks should be Bent to the ladies who had acted as honorary secretaries of the sub- committees in connection with the ladies' work department in the country distriots. The suggestion was approved, and the motion carried unanimously. A letter was received from Mr R. M'Millan, honorary secretary of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, expressing the thanks of the Brigade for the kindness showa to the members of the Brigade while on duty at the exhibition, and for the committee's generosity in granting the Brigade a benefit. A letter tfas read from Mr W. Ollivier, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, enolosing a circular from the Department of Commerce and Industries, bringing under notice the Australian Industrial Exhibition, to ba held in Ballarat in December next.

The Secretary stated that all the exhibits whion; were likely to be sent from Christchurch had already gone.

The letter was received.

A letter was received from Mr Inspector Broham, stating that the Commissioner of Police had consented to the constables who had been on duty at the exhibition receiving honorary certificates. The meeting proceeded to consider t the request of the General Committee of the exhibition, asking the committee of the Industrial Association to appoint a special committee, consisting of Messrs H. B. Kirk, A. G. Howland, J. ,L. Scotf, G. T. Booth, iA. W. Beaven, *E. Allan, R. W. England, T. N. Horsley, J. Waller, S. Hurst Seager, George R. Hart, C. Hull, R. C. Bishop, J. A. Froßtick, J. R.Trigfijs, F. Arenas and W. W; Charters, to consider and report on the question of the erection of an Industrial Hall.

On the motion of Mr G. T. Booth, seconded by Mr R^Allan, the appointment of the Special Committee was approved, with a proviso that the committee should have power to add to its number. Ou the motion of the President, Messrs E. Buchanan and F. Waymouth were added to the Special Committee. ; : A number of letters offering sites for the proposed industrial Hall were referred to the Special- Committee.. . . , • '' The Secretary, Mr T. G. Strange, stated that as his time would \be Very fully occupied, he would be unable to hold his office after the close of the present year. The President and several members expreßbed regret at Mr Strangd's announcement, and, a hope that he would be able to reconsider his determination.
