AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIMENT.
The South Canterbury Education Board, being unable at present to erect a sobool -where one is deßired, on the north eide of, the Orari, towards the sea, have inttruct«d a committee to make inquiries as to the cost of chartering a vehicle to convey the children from the locality in question to the existing school at South Eangitata. The Board has also adopted a new scale of contributions from " aided schools "—»,•., schools having a quarterly average attends ance of Icbs than 25 —the new scale reducing the demand upon the householders by 50 per cent. The committees of the aided schools are generally more or less in arrears with their contributions, the total of these arrears being now about JJI7O. ,
