MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE.

A meeting oi the Executive Committee was held yesterday afternoon. Ten members were present, and Mr H. B. Kirk presided. \ In reply to Mr Quaife it was decided that the committee had no objection to prize-tickets being affixed to exhibits, provided that they distinctly stated the bodies from which they emanated. A letter was read from Mr M. Moriey, stating that he propoaed to publish a i ecord of the exhibition, and asking for a free pass. The letter was referred tp the Pass Committee. It waa deoided to write to the General Manager of Railways, pointing out that the excursion from Timara to the exhibition had been fixed on the day of the Timara raoes, and asking that it might be altered to a more suitable date. A latter was read from Mr J. 1 J. Kinsey, forwarding a copy of the ruleß and regulations of the New Zealand' and South Sea'a' Exhibition. The. President skated that he had acknowledged the letter with thanks. It was decided to insist on all machinery being enclosed. Mr S. Hurst Seager reported that he had received a letter from the Secretary to the Post Office, stating that the PoßtmaaterGoneral had approved of the request that the postage stamp designs might be exhibited. He hoped to be able to tend them about Sept. 9, and they might be kept about three weeks. It was resolved to recommend the Decoration Committee to place a row of flags across Caihel Street, in order to draw attention to the location of the exhibition.

Ml- B. Allan stated that the Children's Work Committee wished for a grant of JBSO for prizes. He proposed a motion to the tffoct that that sum Bhould be granted. Captain M'Clatcbie seconded the motion. After some discussion the motion was withdrawn, and it was decided to request the Children's Work Committee to send a statement as to the manner in which it waa proposed to allocate prizes and certificates. After some further business the meeting adjourned to 3.80 p.m. on Monday next. . .

Oar Eangiora correspondent writes:*With reference to the exhibition exonrfion trains failing to meet the requirements of the country people, what is really needed, as far as the northern' district is concerned, is an occasional late train to Eangiora, Amberley and Oxford, leaving Christohurch at) 11 p.m. The people are anxious to see the exhibition in the evening, but they certainly do not desire to r«a)aitt with their families in the city all night, therefore the extension of the t.icksi; to the following day will be no inducement to them to visit the exhibition. Thursday being the halfboliday at both Eangiora and Kaiapoi, thab day wonld be the moat suitable for a la! o train. •. .If arrangements are made as suggested, io will be greatly to the adyantange of both the Exhibition Committee and the railway- Authorities, and will be greatly appreciated by the people in the .northern district.. ..'.'.■-.
