Differential Duties.
[Special to Pbess Association.] j HOB ART, Sjspt. 6.
Sir E. C. Braddon, the Premier, has written to the Agent-General, with a view to ascertaining how the colonies generally, and Tasmania 'especially, are situated with regard to the power of fixing differential duties, the Colonial Office having laid down that no differential duties can be established without the Bill enacting them being reserved for the Royal asßent. Sir E. C. Braddon points out that from inquiries made when he was Agent-General of Tasmania, he gathered that she colonies have power, as between themselves, to establish differential dutieß. In Tasmania an Act already exists permitting the imposition of differential duties by reciprocity treaties.
