' ' ♦ : ~. TPeb Fbbßs Association.! AUCKLAND, Sept. 6. George Wray Thornton, a storekeeper at Aratapu, was drowned through his . boat being smashed while he was attempting to get the mailß. SUPPOSED DROWNING OF THREE FISHERMEN. DUNEDIN, Sept. 5. A pipe belonging to Sullivan was picked up near the boat. A search party went out to seek traces of the men, or, if drowned,' the bodies. Gash ib a married man with a family of four children. The other two men are aingle. DUNEDIN, Sept. 6. Peter Tiernan, a miner aged fifty-seven, a resident of St Bathans, was drowned ; in a tail-race in front of his house. A narrow escape from a serious shooting accident occurred at Flaxton on Wednesday evening. A youth named George Chapman, about seventeen years of age, j who was out "shooting, saw something which he thought was a hare moving in a clump of gorse and fired. The movement, however, was caused by two little girls, daughters of Mr C. O'Connell, who were looking for their father's cows. Both were injured about the head by shot> but aa the gun had been fired at long range the pellets only penetrated the skin.
