Musical Union.
A largely attended meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday last. The Honorary Secretary reported that six new subscribers had joined for the half-season. The. usual financial report was made, and the draft programme for the orchestral conoert to be given on Oct. 10 was presented and approved. A letter was read from the Motett Society, inviting the co-operation of the Union in the production ot The Messiah, which they proposed to give in conjunction with the Newbury Company; also the reply sent by .the Honorary Secretary, in which the Motott Sooiety whb reminded that the Musical Union had some weeks ago announced it* intention oC following the annual custom of many years past of giving The Messiah previous to Christmas, and that it was already in communication with soloists for the oocasion. Xhe letter also expressed ft hope that the friendly feeling hitherto existing between the two epoietieß would not be disturbed. The committee resolved that it Baw no reason to alter the programme already announced, fully approved of the letter sent in. reply, and instructed the Honorary Secretary to proceed with the usual arrangements by inviting outside assistance, as on former occasions.
