School Committee.

EANGIOBA. The monthly meeting of the above was held on Wednesday evening, Mr E, Ball in the ohair. The master reported the roll number to. be 425, nineteen scholars having been admitted during the month, and six withdrawn. The attendance during the past week had been the highest for years, there being 400 present on Tuesday, a record for the school. Dr Anderson's examination report was read. On the motion of the Eev P. E, Monro, it was decided to forward to the teachers an expression of the committee's pleasure at the satisfactory nature of the report. An ! application for appointment as pupil teacher was received from Jessie Keir. A long discussion took place relative to the inspection of private schools, and the following motion was adopted : " That thiß meeting strongly disapproves of the State school inspectors examining private schools; theße private schools being for the moßt part conducted in direot and determined opposition to the national schools. Further, that this meeting expresses emphatic protest against the position taken up by the Minister of Education when he , addressed a deputation in Wellington on | August 16, when he expressed himself as ! favourable to the claims of private schools i for inspeotion by the State sohool inspeo--1 tors. Farther, that the attention of the ! member for the district (Sir Buddo) jbe drawn to the Minister's statement, and that he be asked to oppose any attempt from any quarter to make inspection of private sohools by the , National sohool inspeotors mandatory." It ; was decided to send a oopy of the resolution to the member for the district and to I the Board of Education. Messrs Graham and Foster were appointed Visiting Committee for the month.
