INTER-COLLEGIATE MATCH.

The first of the eerieaof inter-collegiate matches to he played in Chriatohurch took place at the Christ's College ground yesterday, when the Wanganui Collegiate School met Christ's College. The weather waa everything that could be desired, and about a thousand spectators were present, a large proportion of whom were ladies. The game waa fairly f«Bt and open, the visitors, whose backs were too fast and heavy for the local men, eventually winning by twenty-one points to nil. Mr F. Evans was referee. The kick-off was followed by Eome uninteresting play at the centre, until some good work by the local team's forwards threatened the visitors' line. Good kicking by the backß relieved the pressure, and Wanganui had a turn ftt attacking, a fumble by Cooper, one of their three-quarters, alone preventing a score. Soon afterwards the same player ; ran over, as the result of bo me passing between Cornford, Higginson and himself. No goal was kicked. The visitors' backs continued to exhibit excellent attabking powers, and Hovell scored their second try just on the call of j half-time. The kick at goal again failed. The second Bpell opened with an attack on the visitors* lines, but the sound defence of the latter averted the danger, and the ball was kicked out of touch at the centre flag. After this the Wanganui boys had their opponents constantly in trouble, and, aiddd by some weak collaring;, rapidly increased their score. Talbot, liOuisßon and M'Beth occasionally did some good defensive work, but the passing of the Wanganui backs bore down all opposition. Cooper scored his second try for the visitors after a fine ran from near the centre flag, and Higginson and Willis followed suit. All three tries were converted, and the game ended as stated above.
