Women's Christian Temperance Union.

A meeting in connection with the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held at the Oddfellows' Hall laat evening. The hall was about two-thirds full. Mr K. Beattie occupied the ohair. The Bey J. J*. Doke gave an address, in the course of which he said that temperance waß essentially a woman's question, and the Women's Christian Temperance Union was destined to accomplish great things. Woman's moat important work was the education of the young. Mrs Smalley also spoke. She said that a cause for gratitude was that they lived in the year of grace, 1895, when bo many of their disabilities had been removed. In the. Women's Christian Temperance Union they were banded together for good against all things evil, ©speoially against strong drink. The only way to deal with this evil was to sweep the traffic out of the country. Miss L. M. Eirk, of Wellington, in a Bhort address, referred to the crusade in America in 1873, which had led to the formation of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, In America, in forty-one States out of forty-four, and in all the territories in Columbia, and in tbe naval and military schools, scientific temperance instruction was. given. What the Union wanted wss that temperanoe leßsonsahould ■be made a pass subject in the schools. Mr T. E. Taylor also spoke. On the motion of Mrs Munnings, seconded by the BevF. W. laitt, a vote of thanks was accorded to the speakers. The meeting waß brought to a close with the singing of the Doxology.
