At the inquest on Loader, who was frozen to death on the ranges at Wairarapa, Salisbury, one of the surveyors, admitted that he did not mention the need of sending assistance when he reached Knutson's house. A verdict of " Death from exposure " was returned, with a rider censuring Salisbury and Smith for not giving information. At the inquest on Patroz, who was found hanging at Stratford, a post mortem showed that he died from syncope. DUNEDIN, August 27. Messrs Sargood have* purchased the business of Messrs Robert Gray and Company in Sydney, the management of which has been entrasted to Messrs F. G. Sargood and Spiers. John Stewart, convicted of housebreaking, was bound over in JJ2S surety to come up for sentence when called upon ; James Spence, hone-stealing, probation fQr twelve months; Robert Stewart, theft of money, three months' imprisonment.
