An ordinary meeting of this Board was held on August 5 ; present— Sir John Hall (chairman), Messrs Bealey, Brown and Colville. Correspondence was read from the Selwyn County Council in regard to the suppression of small birds. Mr T. Breading wrote, complaining of excessive charges on sheep impounded at Dunsandel. It waa resolved to ask the poundkeeper for particulars. Tenders for. works were accepted as follows :— Forming and metalling Cemetery Boad, Wood Bros., at 17s 9d per ohain ; forming and metalling Davies' Boad, J. Beaming, 143 5d per chain ; form* ing and metalling Brownlie'a Boad, J. Soanlan at JBI Is 3d per chain. Tenders for a number of small contracts were also accepted. Ib was resolved— "That casual day men be employed only on alternate weeks ; that Maffey's Boad be re-shingled ; that tendeiß be called for the supply of i ironbark timber, for renewal of Derretf s Bridge and for repairs to Wairiri Bridge ; that the Surveyor prepare specifications ! for the completing of the construction of , all roads in the district on wbioh traffio is [ of any importance ; that the Board at ' its next meeting strike a general rate of i one-farthing in the £."
