His Excellency had made it a rule since he had been in the colony not to absent himself from Wellington during the session of the General Assembly, and though he would have been glad to make an exception in favour of the exhibition, he felt it would lay him open to the charge of inconsistency, as he had refused to go elsewhere. The letter was received. It was deoided to ask his Worship the Mayor of Christohurch to open the exhibition j and to invite the' members of the City Council to attend the opening. On the motion of Mr Allan, seconded by Captain M'Clatchie, it was resolved — " That small exhibits may be sold and delivered from the exhibition, all sales to be subject to a commission of 10 per osnt to the Gommittee, no exhibitor to sell without first obtaining the authority of the executive." The action of the Entertainment Committee was approved. The meeting then closed. The exhibitors are already beginning to fit up their stands in the industrial exhibition. The decoration of the southern avenue by draping the rafters with brightly-col-oured art muslin has been almost completed. The effect is decidedly gay. A practice of the children who are to sing the National Anthem "Zealandia" at the opening ceremony was held yesterday afternoon, at . the Caledonian Society's Booms, under the direction of Mr George Daltry, Mr Bossiter acting as accompanist.
