f Spkciax to Fkiss Association.] MEMORIAL SERVICES. SYDNEY, AuausT 12. Memorial services were held in several of the churches yesterday in memory of the missionaries killed in China. TEEATMENT OF PRISONERS. In consequence of statements published about tha rigorous treatment of youthful prisoners, the Government has obtained a report from its medical adviser, Professor Anderson Stuart, who says that the evidence on the whole is in favour of the present system. Tiiere is certainly no immediate need of alteration, and no sufficient reason to consider it injurious to the health or development of prisoners. The Government proposes to carry out the suggeation of Professor Stuart, that in order to set the matter at rest the weights of the prisoners should be taken during the next Bix months.
