THE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

MEETINGS OF COMMITTEES. Owing to the continuous demandß for space at the forthcoming industrial exhibition, it ii probable that a farther extension of the building will havo to be made. The Workers' Committee haß deoided to recommend thatan addition, thirty fee tlong, should be made to the gunebed, but it is considered that even more should be done, and that, besides this extension, a large entrance hall, connected with it, should be made along the end of the drillahed. BKFBBSHMEHT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Refreshment Committee in oonneotion with the industrial exhibition was held at the room of the Induatrial Association on Saturday afternoon. Mr H. Curlett, chairman, presided, and there was a good attendance. It was decided to oall for tenders for the rights of keeping a fruit; stall and a colonial lolly stall at the exhibition. An offer from Mesßrs Fletoher, Humphreys and Co. to supply tea and teapotß for use in the refreshment room on condition that they were allowed to advertise their teas in the room, was accepted. Mr W. E. D. Bishop was elected a member of the committee. It was deoided to call for tenders for the supply of other provisions, and a Bubcommittee consisting of Meßdames Curlett, Copper, Buchanan, Sey, Meikleham and B. 0. Bishop was appointed to draw up a schedule for the guidance of tenderers. The committee adjourned to 2 p.m. on Saturday next. CHILDBIN'S WOBK COMMITTEE. The Children's Work Committee met on Saturday afternoon. Nineteen members were present. Mrs Curlett presided, and stated that an intimation bad been re* oeived from the Deaf Mutes' Institute, Sumner, to the effeot that the inmates of that institution would exhibit specimens of work produced by them. A letter was road from Mr W. Gimblett, offering a bouquet, to be presented on behalf of the committee to the Countess of Glasgow at the opening of the exhibition. The offer was accepted with thanks. A letter was reoeived from the Rev W. Cruden, suggesting that in the pianoforte competition girls from the country should not compete against those from the town, but should be placed in a separate olass. It was deoided that the conditions of the competition could not be altered. Captain M'Clatchie reported that the masters of the East and West Christohuich, Normal and Sydenham schools had consented to allow a number of their children to sing at the opening ceremony. It was decided to apply to the executive for leave to print one thousand copies of a circular, in terms of the advertisement inserted by the committee, for distribution among the public. A sub-committee, consisting of Mrs Bishop, Misses Dynes, Cabot, Gibson and Mr Bishop, was appointed to draw np an address to Lady Glasgow. The committee adjourned for a fortnight. WOBKEBS' COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Workers' Committee was held at the Industrial Association's rooms on Saturday evening. Eight members were present. .. Mr S. Hurst Seager, chairman, reported that the number of workers who had applied was sufficient to occupy all the space available in the gunshed. It would be necessary, indeed, to extend the shed to provide room for a steam engine, a dynamo and for ironworkers. Messrs P. and D. Duucan had kindly offered to supply an engine, and the Gas Company to furnish coke. It was deoided to recommend the executive to extend the gnnshed thirty feet, as far as the end of the drillahed. as the whole of the space was imperatively required. The spaoe in the gunehed was allocated among the various workers, and the committed i adjourned to 7p.m. on Saturday next. ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held after that of the Workers' Committee. Eighteen members were present. Mr G. R. Hart (chairman) reported that the first rehearsal of the children in the Caledonian Society's Booms had been exceedingly successful. An arrangement had been made with the directors of the Caledonian Society for getting up a concert of Scottish national mußic. Five pipers would be placed at the disposal of the committee to take part in the opening ceremony. He had seen Messrs Wallace and Lund, who had promised to get up a high-class concert at the end of the exhibition, on condition that full concert prices were charged. The Executive Committee had recommended this committee to set apart certain seats to be reserved at each entertainment. He had seen Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon in reference to a guard of honour for his Excellency at the opening ceremony. He had since received a letter from Colonel Gordon to the effeot that he would be glad to supply £ guard of honour, which included the band. The Programme Sub-Committee, with Messrs W. Smith and Sey, was appointed to meet the Directors of the Caledonian Society in reference to the Scottish concert on August 31. An offer of assistance from the City Professional Band, on the same conditions as those of the other bands who are assisting, was accepted with thanks. The Programme Sub-Committee submitted a programme of concerts for eaoh week night from August 29 to Sept. 28. The programme was adopted, and it was deoided to inform the ladies and gentlemen providing entertainments of the date fixed for eaoh. In consequenoe of a reoommendation from the Executive Committee, it was deoided to set apart 150 chairs in the concert hall, to be reserved at an additional charge of one shilling eaoh, for each evening. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Roper— "That the chairs reserved be divided off from the main portion of the hall, and that arrangements be made to receive the extra ohargo for admission at a special door." The Chairman was requested to see the Building Committee in reference to providing a Bide door for the purpose. .Three otters to furnish a piano, on very liberal terms, were received, and that of Messrs Milner and Thompson, to supply a fall grand Kapß was accepted. The committee adjourned to 8 p.m. on Saturday next.
