While men were at work on the Euapehu taking in cargo this evening a hatch cover was accidentally knocked down the hold by the eliDga and four man below were injured, Berk, Johnson and Williams got off more or less bruißed, but W. Stewart received concussion of the brain and had to be taken to the hospital.
Yesterday afternoon,, at fUngiora, a horse belonging to Meßars G. fil'Clatohie and Co., while being driven in a loaded carrier's dray, fell and died within two or three minutes. The horse was valued at about £15.
About ten o'clock yeoterday morning a child named Alfred Charles Stephens, aged three years, died suddenly at his parents' house, Torrens Boad, Hillmorton. The child was in his usual health on Tuesday, but was seized with convulsions daring the night, and died at the time stated. Dr Thomss was Bent for, but the child died before he arrived. An inquest will probably be hold to-morrow.
About three o'clock yesterday afternoon, as Mr J. Flick was getting out of his cart in Victoria Street, the horse took fright and bolted. Mr Flick's hands became entangled with the reing, and he was dragged about fifty yards alone; the street. He received a severe wound on the head, and was taken to the hospital and attended to. "While Mr W. Palmer was walking along Colombo ' Street yesterday afternoon in front of Messrs Tcneycliffe and Carey'B shop he was seized with an epileptic fit, and fell heavily againßt the kerbidg injuring himself rather Beverely. He was taken to the hospital and attended to.
