A very interesting experiment has recently been made by Captain Dickmann, of tht: German ship Margaretha. He painted half faia vessel with Holzapfel'a composition, and the other half with zino and tallow. After a voyage from Cardiff to Santoa, thance to Taltal and back to Cardiff, ha found the' portion of the yes* »r« hull which had been coated with zinc ;^d tallow thickly covered with shell;,, while the sido oovered with • the composition waß entirely free from the ahe'iL-, and showed only a little grass here and We. After the hull had been dcra) u>(i, no signs of the zino and tallow were piaible, while the compoaition remain.'d almoßt intact. The experiment, thetelotr, clearly demonstrated the value of Ho i aftr.f el's composition.
