Parliamentary Assembly.
Tbere was a fair attendance of members and visitors 'at the weekly meeting of ' the Chtistchorch Parliamentary Assembly, held in the Proj vinciar Qonacil Chamber, last 'night. In the absence of Mr H. Thomson, the Speaker, Mr W. S/ Wharton was voted to ; the chair. In reply to Mr 0 . J. Parker, the Premier, Mr HorDsby, aaid that the Government was of opinion that local industries were sufficiently encouraged already, and that if the goldfields were to be further doveloped it must be through the aid of outside capital. The debate on the Addreas-in-Reply waß resumed by Mr P.W. Johnston (Attorney-General), arid was' carried on by Messrs L. H. Eogers, CD. Lightband, F. W. Hobba (PoatmasterQeneral), S. Powell, W. H. Seed (Colonial Treasurer), H. Paten, W* Edwaidsi' J.3T.Parker, J. Bendely and M. Moaley. At the oloee of the debate, the Premier made a Ministerial statement, announcing the resignation of two members of the Ministry, Messrs Wbarton and Craddock, the reason being that they could not agree with the Government's policy in introducing the Women's Enabling Bill. Their places had been filled by the appointment of Messrs "Watt and Whitesides. If the .Ministry .was -not defeated he would have to fill the place' of another oC the Minißterß. He replied to the attacks on the Government policy. Mr Capper's amendment — ''That the proposals of the Government, as sot forth in the Governor's Speech i are not acceptable to this House/' was then negatived on the voice?, and. the' motion. for .the Address>inEeply waß carried. The Premier gave notice to introduce the Women's Enabling Bill.
